How Horses Define Commitment

Horses Commitment

“No reserve. No retreat. No regret.” — William Border

When people ask me what I do to transform a horse I answer, “Whatever it takes.”

“How long does it take?”

“As long as it takes.”

I withhold nothing.  My definition of commitment is “no matter what.” There are no deal breakers or excuses.  Anything you promise must be delivered. One of the greatest skills I’ve learned over the past thirty years is knowing what and how much to promise. If you can’t deliver, don’t say you can. It’s that simple – which isn’t at all the same thing as easy.

Do you know your limitations? Can you foresee the snags that may crop up tomorrow or next week? One promise you break is more powerful than twenty you keep.

Horses have one big question, “Can I trust you?”
