Socialism, Equality, and the Garden of Eden

socialism equality

The relative value of socialism and demands for equality or equity dominate politics, academia, and public debate. What few consider is that the conversation began in the Garden of Eden.

Reducing God to human level denies His qualities of being other or more than we. Sinful human nature seeks to bring God down to our level rather than being inspired to move closer to His.

How many preachers and teachers insist that Jesus is your friend; that Jesus needs you; that Jesus thinks and makes decision the same way you do?

Equality is a Teeter Totter

Teeter totters are either balanced or out of balance. The only way to bring perfect equality for both riders is to raise one by dropping the other. Presumed equality can be forced by making one side shorter and one longer as illustrated in the cover image.

Did your favorite teacher try to match your level of ignorance the day you set foot in the classroom for the first time? Education doesn’t create equality between teacher and student by dumbing down the teacher.

“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.” – Winston Churchill, 1948 House of Commons address.

The framework established by the US Constitution requires that both law and opportunity be equally applied. Recent social change rests on the doctrine of Equal Outcomes, the lie that good policy, law, and morality deliver equal outcomes for all protected under their umbrellas.

Socialism isn’t Biblical

Equal outcomes for all is not biblical, rational, desirable, or even possible. It is, however, the basis for Socialism. Socialism always fails once people believe they can receive all they want without cost or effort. Eventually no one does anything because there is no motivation to work or contribute.

The equality demanded by varied protest groups today is equal outcome; everyone sharing in the same mediocrity; no one rising above and no one falling below.

Forbidden Fruit: Equality

Satan engineered Adam’s fall by pitching the concept that a loving God wouldn’t deny something good. Eve agreed that God was good and believed the forbidden fruit was good for her because it would make her as God.

Therefore it was only logical that God couldn’t have meant what He said.

“The serpent said, “For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.”

Genesis 3:5-6

Satan covered his lie that “Surely, God hath not said!” by convincing Eve that (1) she was mistaken that God would withhold something wonderful or (2) if God intended to play keep away He was a rotten selfish meanie.

It was easier for Eve to believe she misunderstood God than think He would deny her and Adam something wonderful “just because.” It made perfect sense to believe Satan’s argument that, “Surely, God hath not said.” And so she ate.

Dragging God off His Throne

Eve believed God was not so far above her that a piece of fruit couldn’t level the playing field. Familiarity breeds contempt. Satan is all about leading gullible and willful humans to over familiarity with God.

The Divine-Human teeter totter only balances by delusion; that God can be drug off His height to our level. He can’t. What He promises is that one day He will raise us up.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name…
