“Where am I?”
Something is different. Your eyes are drawn to a clock-like digital display as you wake from the deepest sleep you’ve ever experienced. Brilliant numerals are backlit by an unidentifiable color.
“What does that mean? Is 24:15 the time? Where am I and what kind of time is 24:15? In military time midnight is 24:00. One minute past midnight is 00:01. What does 24:15 mean? Is it morning or evening, daytime or nighttime?”
All you see is the display – 24:15.
The natural world defines days in 24 hour periods. The duration of one cycle of light and dark wasn’t established by politicians, religious doctrine, or human whim. Daytime and nighttime are values defined by simple observation and explained by both the rotation and orbit of the Earth. Since time exists in 24 hour increments, is 24:15 beyond midnight but yet not morning?
Where will you be fifteen minutes into Eternity?
Your eternal neighborhood will be determined by who you are and what you believe – and whether what you believe has any relationship to what actually is.
“Choose today whom you will serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” – Joshua 24:15
“Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ” (Colossians 2:8).
It doesn’t matter what you believe at your last breath unless what you believe is true. The lies of the world have no power in eternity. There is only one source of Truth. It not only matters why you believe what you believe, it matters if what you believe is real.
New Creations in Christ aren’t 30-day wonders or one act plays. We are flesh and blood people on a journey of continuing discovery, transformation and purpose, daily becoming more like Jesus by the grace of God. The path is bumpy and the hazards great because we have all been deceived.
The world shifted from God over man to Man over god in 1859 when much of the world left the past behind in favor of progressive doctrines intended to deny God. While researching this book I learned that almost everything wrong in western cultures today was either introduced or altered course in 1859. It was the beginning of humanism, “settled science”, modern medicine, progressive sociology, and a theology based on human nature rather than God’s Holy Spirit.
The fuse that detonated the 1859 explosion was lit in the Garden of Eden and we are in free-fall. Little that is recognizable will remain when the dust settles. Where you find yourself in eternity depends on what you believe and what you do about it. You must declare your choice because there is no more time on the clock. The span between 23:59 and 24:15 cannot be measured by mortals. The passage from life to eternity is known only by God.
“It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.”
Both Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities and Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species were published in 1859. Events of 1859 launched the American Civil War. Major news stories of 1859 include abortion, children on drugs, rapture, racism, troubles with Mexico and Cuba, and man-made climate change.
Such topics today are news stories with constituencies. Every special interest, from abortion activists to #BlackonCampus, thinks it should be King of the Hill and that all others should endorse them and live on leftovers. No unity remains in the United States of America except what pulls the lost into self-centered microcosms of human fear. Human nature seeks to exclude, banish, contain, or exterminate those who aren’t like we are. Because “they” are different we can’t predict what “they” will do. The natural human response is fear.
There isn’t one thing everyone in the USA would agree on. There isn’t one thing every “Christian” would agree on. Nothing unites. The result is infighting. Jackals are ripping at the carcass of a once united people to wrest their fair share from other jackals. The USA is no more immune to human nature than were the Israelites. Human law changes based upon which “we” is in charge. The only law unchanged from the beginning is that established by God. Because human nature fears, rejects, and seeks to eliminate that which it does not understand or is not like we are – God has been banished from the land.
“Over the last 50 years our Supreme Court has made four explosive decisions that have so weakened the moral and spiritual structure and foundation of our country that our inevitable collapse is certain. Right now we’re simply living between that time of the explosions that have weakened our basic foundation, and the coming implosion.” – Pastor Robert Jeffress
In the following chapters you’ll discover the sources and history of many worldly falsehoods, including the most powerful –isms, economic theories, intellectual lies, scientific inaccuracies, and some of the stranger religions tried throughout history and the one thing common to them all – Human Nature.
Consciously consider the historical substance and tidbits of trivia in Fifteen Minutes into Eternity from God’s perspective rather than the world’s. Resolve to make that choice every morning. That choice determines where you will be fifteen minutes into eternity.
