It’s Christmas and I wanted to offer you something in the spirit of the season. I love unique, seldom-seen or little-known factoids, wonderful stories or quotes overlooked by the main stream.
These ten Christmas quotes made my list this year. I hope you find a gem among them.
-1- “The hinge of history is on the door of a Bethlehem stable.” – Ralph W. Sockman
-2- “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.” – Isaiah 9:2
-3- “We may not ‘spend’ Christmas, or ‘observe’ Christmas, but rather keep it.” – Peter Marshall
-4- One Christmas William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, wanted to send a message of encouragement to Salvationists throughout the world. A lengthy message was prohibitive, so he chose a message of but one word: “Others!” – Walter B. Knight
-5- “He was created of a mother whom He created. He was carried by hands that He formed. He cried in the manger in wordless infancy. He, the Word, without whom all human eloquence is mute.” – Augustine
-6- “How many observe Christ’s birthday! How few, His precepts!” – Benjamin Franklin
-7- “I don’t want a Christmas you can buy. I don’t want a Christmas you can make. What I want is a Christmas you can hold. A Christmas that holds me, remakes me, revives me. I want a Christmas that whispers, Jesus.” – Ann Voscamp
-8- “Whatever the circumstances around your Christmas are this year – may you find peace and hope in inviting Jesus right into the mess.” – Jenni Hunt
-9- “Into this world, this demented inn in which there is absolutely no room for him at all, Christ comes uninvited.” -Thomas Merton
-10- “…And then, just when everything is bearing down on us to such an extent that we can scarcely withstand it, the Christmas message comes to tell us that all our ideas are wrong, and that what we take to be evil and dark is really good and light because it comes from God. Our eyes are at fault, that is all. God is in the manger, wealth in poverty, light in darkness, succor in abandonment. No evil can befall us; whatever men may do to us, they cannot but serve the God who is secretly revealed as love and rules the world and our lives.” -Dietrich Bonhoeffer
May the peace of Christ Jesus reign in your today and every day.
